Roma Tropical Breeds Droughtmaster bull sale enhanced its reputation as a source of top quality herd improvers after posting another strong result on October 21. Sale committee chairman Brett Warne, Billabalong, Injune, summed up this year’s fixture by saying the sale had grown from strength to strength as vendors continue to make a genuine effort to improve quality and supply bulls suitable for the buyers’ needs.
These are the key factors underpinning the success of this year’s sale, which saw improvements in both the average – up $295 on last year – and 15 more bulls finding new homes. Droughtmaster Australia chief executive officer Neil Donaldson said he was pleased with the outcome and any time a sale could clear more bulls and raise the average by almost $300 was a great result for the breed.
Local agents Elders, GDL and Landmark sold a total of 151 bulls for a $4013 average, representing an 87 percent clearance rate with a top price of $13,000. Cameron and Sean Salter, Glen Fosslyn Stud, Glenmorgan, outlaid the top money for Valera Vale Clifford 103 (P), a two-year-old son of Clonlara 07128 (P), which weighed in at 900kg with a scrotal circumference of 43cm. Consistency of type, a good clean coat and excellent weight-for-age were some of his best attributes according to Cameron Salter.
“This sale offers exceptional quality bulls at tremendous value,” Mr Salter said.
He backed his assessment and secured a number of the other high-selling bulls including Marylands 234 (P) from the Bond family, The Homestead, Surat for $10,000; Coolibah Everest 022 (P) from Peter Mailler, Coolibah stud, Boggabilla, NSW at $8000; Dalmally Zorba (P) from Rob Brown, Dalmally Grazing Company, Roma, for $8500 and Jembrae Easy Beats (P) from Brett and Leanne Warne, Jembrae Stud, Injune, for $8500.
Long-time vendors Neil and Margaret Warne, Cedardale Stud, Casino, NSW, attracted the $12,000 second top money for Cedardale Grover, a deep-bodied son of Glen Fosslyn 05/318 (P), which was bought by Wayne and Grant Veivers, Rewan Cattle Company, Talgai Stud, Rolleston. The Veivers family also parted with another $10,000 for Jembrae Esky from the Warne’s Jembrae sale team. Last year’s sale-topping vendor Charm Ryrie, Wirrigai Stud, Grandview, Pittsworth, sold Wirrigai Atlas, a full blood son of former sale topper in Oakmore Fury (P) for the next best money of $10,500 to the Karoola Grazing Company at Charleville.
